Why our flexible working is a winning formula

As a people champion, we offer flexible working patterns to employees.

They include Demi Bray, who joined The Right Fuelcard Company (TRFC) after successfully completing the Bayford Foundation employment programme.

Twenty two year old Demi, a single parent, joined the Foundation in February 2016 following a recommendation by InterServe – one of our valued community partners who identify suitable candidates for training and employment.

Demi had taken hair and beauty courses at college but had not previously worked. She proved a quick learner who enjoyed tapping into her potential by acquiring new skills.

Demi enthuses: “My training included adopting the right tone with customers on the telephone, writing skills such as correct spelling and grammar and IT. Our friendly, encouraging working environment was great to learn in and boosted my confidence no end.”

Demi was given the opportunity of join TRFC’s customer service team on a part time bases, whilst keeping developing her skills through the training provided by the Foundation. Every morning she worked as a data cleanser with the Foundation and with TRFC’s customer services team in the afternoon, where she helped customers with enquiries and distributed fuel cards to new accounts.

Adds Demi: “I love the variety and buzz of being with both the Bayford Foundation and the TRFC teams and feel I got the best of both worlds!”

Demi received bespoke telephone skills training from another Data Inputter, Chantelle Robinson, and eventually was offered a full time role with the customer service team. Our investment in her development also includes her taking a NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Customer Service.

Foundation manager, Nick Elletson, says: “Our flexible approach has been a ‘win-win’. It enabled Demi to learn about the wider business by working across two departments that are vital to our ongoing business success. We’re delighted with her progress.”

The Sunday Times also recognised our groundbreaking work with the Bayford Foundation – which gives people from all walks of life an opportunity to fulfil their potential – with a Discovering Potential Award.
