Why we’re adopting the inspiring Leeds Children’s Charity again

We’re delighted to nominate Leeds Children’s Charity as our adopted charity for another year – because of its inspirational work to bring laughter into the lives of 7-11 year olds hailing from some of the most deprived areas in Leeds.

Our designated charity creates happy childhood memories for the neediest of families, with a fun-filled, week-long break.

Supported by local schools, social workers, families and carers, it takes more than 400 children to its holiday home each year where they play, make friends and enjoy respite from the difficulties they face at home.

Committed to giving back to our local communities from where we recruit many of our staff, adopting Leeds Children’s Charity is a key element of our deep-rooted ethos as a ‘people’s champion’.

This is reinforced by The Right Fuelcard Company (TRFC), which runs our Bayford Foundation, being ranked 33rd in the Sunday Times Best Companies 2016 list.

Assessors from the Sunday Times acknowledged the values-driven, transparent, HR strategy with a 3 Star Accreditation – the highest accolade a company can receive – for “exceptional” levels of employee’s engagement.

The Sunday Times also recognised TRFC’s ground-breaking work with the Foundation – which gives people from all walks of life an opportunity to fulfil their potential – with a Discovering Potential Award.

We’ve supported the Leeds Children’s Charity in a number of exciting ways over the last few years, with more than £1600 raised in 2016 alone.

All employees are encouraged to boost funds for the fantastic charity and everyone is given one working day off each calendar year to participate in fundraising activities.

Further staff involvement comes from the 50p each member donates weekly for Dress Down Friday.  A nine-strong TRFC team undertook one of the UK’s toughest race -12 km and 30 obstacles- to fuel funds by more than £1,150 last summer.

The charity also receives part of the profits from the UK Fuels card, which TRFC launched in 2015 – raising £375 in one year.
